Pacifica Law Group attorneys Nick Brown<\/a>, Deanna Gregory<\/a>, Shweta Jayawardhan<\/a>, Jamie Lisagor<\/a>, and Faith Pettis<\/a> will speak at the Washington State Association of Municipal Attorneys (WSAMA<\/a>) Spring 2024 Conference this week in Vancouver, Washington.<\/p>\n

The twice-yearly WSAMA conferences brings together city attorneys, county prosecutors, and other municipal attorneys from across the state to learn about and discuss legal issues and other challenges facing municipalities.<\/p>\n

Deanna\u2019s presentation, \u201cAn Election-Year Primer on Municipal Ballot Measures,\u201d will delve into the Public Disclosure Commission\u2019s (PDC) guidelines for the form and requirements of ballot measures, and for the activities of local governments, staff, and elected officials during election campaigns.<\/p>\n

In their presentation, \u201cRace and Equity Considerations for Local Governments,\u201d Faith, Jamie, Nick, and Shweta will discuss how municipal lawyers and their clients can design Race, Equity, and Social Justice (RESJ) initiatives while mitigating risk in a constitutional and statutory environment that often appears at odds with municipalities\u2019 RESJ goals. They will also share their thoughts on pending cases concerning race-conscious programs. This talk will draw on Pacifica\u2019s experience working with public clients to draft RESJ state legislation and local ordinances, and to design RESJ programs and policies related to public contracting, grant making, and other topics.<\/p>\n
